Demonstrating our commitment to Health and Safety compliance, the Commercial Tyres Off Highway sales team have gained their MPQC/SPA Contractor Safety Passports. The Safety Pass Alliance (SPA) design this nationally recognised standard to ensure an industry-wide commitment to safe working practices throughout the sector: quarrying, sand and gravel operations, concrete, mortar, cement and asphalt plants, wharfs or surface mining.
Jason Hobbs, Peter Roffey and Graham Simpson received their MPQC Level 2 Awards after successfully completing the rigorous course run by Gary Holmes of MP Skills at Writtle University College in Chelmsford. The SPA Passports are valid for three years and provide reassurance to operators of heavy plant that all Commercial Tyres Off Highway staff are suitably trained and represent a lower-risk to their operations.
Graham Simpson, Commercial Manager for the Tructyre Group: “these Passports emphasise our responsibility towards safety, allowing us onto customer sites with shorter inductions and to work with minimal supervision when performing tyre inspections or discussing new tyre specifications.”

We are pleased to announce that Peter Roffey has joined Commercial Tyres Off Highway as of February 1st. As our new Group Off Road Specialist, Peter will drive the business development and oversee every aspect of customer service. He joins a well-established team, working alongside Matt Baldwin, Operations Manager, and our team of experienced specialist technicians.
Peter has more than 30 years’ experience in the tyre industry, starting on-the-tools then moving into sales at an early age. Having worked for well-known retailers, wholesalers and manufacturers, he has acquired an in-depth knowledge of the industrial, earth mover and heavy plant markets. With this diverse range of operating environments, his technical skills cover radial and bias tyres, press-on solid tyres and replacement wheel rims, through to foam-fill and astute tyre management.
Graham Simpson, Commercial Manager for the Tructyre Group, stated: “Our Off Highway division has been growing consistently since 2013. Recently, referrals from satisfied customers together with investments in marketing and trade shows, has led to increased levels of business. Peter joins us with a wealth of industry experience and a proven track record in technical sales. I look forward to him driving the customer service experience for new and existing clients.”
Tructyre are proud to announce we have achieved OHSAS 18001 certification; the best practice standard in Occupational Health and Safety management.
We undertook the project to ensure Tructyre provided the best possible workplace procedures and safety. With our technicians working in a range of dynamic environments; from customer sites to the roadside to other public areas, the risks are simply higher. Our Health and Safety committee thoroughly reviewed all work policies and procedures, to ensure they detail the best and safest way to perform every task or process.
The OHSAS 18001 certification is combined with our ISO 9001 quality standard and ISO 14001 environmental management. Together, they form our integrated management system – designed to ensure Tructyre perform services in the safest, most professional and consistent manner. Additionally, it provides the framework to drive our commitment to continual improvement.
John Brand, Group Operations Manager, stated: “It was a solid performance from all the team to achieve OHSAS certification at our first attempt. We believe it demonstrates our commitment to delivering the highest standards of performance and safety. Today more than ever, we find customers seek reassurance in proven risk management from their supply chain.”
OHSAS certification covers both Tructyre and Commercial Tyres Off Highway.
We were proud to support The Mineral Products Association’s Health & Safety Awareness day on Wednesday 20th September. Held in Wiltshire at the Hills Quarry site, the event welcomed delegates from companies operating in aggregates, asphalt, cement, concrete, dimension stone, lime, mortar and silica sand industries. These events are designed to ensure that attitudes toward a healthier and safer workplace remain a top priority for each employee.
Our sister company Commercial Tyres Off Highway was invited to present best practice in tyre management for heavy plant. We showcased 2 tyres that had been removed from shovel loaders operating in quarries that initially received relatively minor punctures. The first tyre may have been repairable had the machine operative noticed the loss of pressure. Sadly, the plant continued to operate carrying loads over some distance, causing the internal butane layer to break up. The second tyre had also been operated whilst under-inflated, causing the wheel rim to spin against the tyre bead when driving into stock piles. Consequently, the bead bundle that holds all the casing cord construction in place, started to delaminate into its constituent layers. An expensive error considering this tyre was just 10% worn, resulting in scrapping over £8,000 of tread-life.
However, the health and safety implications are far more important than the money. Both faults were only visible by removing the tyre prior to repair; as our best practice work methods demand. Some non-compliant tyre service providers would be prepared to perform a simple ‘string’ repair which would leave these dangerous faults undetected. After re-inflating these tyres to 140psi, they could best be described as a ticking time bombs.
With our commitment to training, working procedures and investment in equipment, you can rely on us to ensure the safety of your employees and our technicians.

This week the Tructyre sales team were out in force at Plantworx; the largest working construction equipment exhibition. The heavy rain on Tuesday and high winds afterwards did not dampen any visitors’ spirits, even if it made the site look a bit like Glastonbury.
We greeted a stream of visitors from all over the UK to our stand. All interested in how our professional on-site service could keep their diverse range of plant working hard. With our wide range of heavy plant tyres, including SETCO Solid Tyres, our knowledgeable sales team are proud to have forged new business.
Since 2003, PICS have become the standard prequalification and auditing service in many industries, including construction, energy, telecoms, oil and gas, mining, manufacturing, and transportation. Today, PICS Auditing is used by over 300 of the world’s biggest organisations, in over 100 countries, to align their supply chains to sustainable business practices.
The Tructyre Group underwent PICS Accreditation to endorse its commitment to Health and Safety, best working practises and processes, established training programs and compliance reporting. We considered accreditation an integral step in our business plans, particularly for our Commercial Tyres Off Highway division. Given the increased health and safety requirements applicable, and the synergy with clients operating heavy plant, we were keen to prove our commitment as tyre professionals with PICS.
John Brand, Group Operations Manager says: "As with all external testing, the PICS accreditation stages were thorough, rigorous and detailed – exactly as you'd hope. However, when we engage with new clients, the investment in our PICS status shows we are qualified to perform high quality work consistently. Today, we find more road-based customers are subscribing to PICS, which underlines its value to the Tructyre Group."
PICS was an abbreviation of 'Pacific Industrial Contractor Screening', so the new Avetta name better reflects the evolution into a global brand. It also underlines its core strategy, to 'vet' suppliers for regulatory compliance and supply chain risk management.
